Regret your timeshares purchase?

People often use and enjoy their timeshares for several years. Then factors in life change; they get older, their children grow up, maybe they don’t want to travel as much.

It’s not that timeshares themselves are bad, it’s the perpetuity that can cause problems. Whenever you get to a point in life when it no longer makes sense to own a timeshare, there is no exit plan.

Most owners consider exiting their timeshare because of four reasons:

• Availability problems: They try to book a vacation stay and are told there are no units available or they don’t have enough “points” to make a reservation.
• Rising fees: According to an infographic by American Resort Development Assoc., maintenance fees rose 2% from the previous year.
• Upgrade fees: Timeshare companies may offer upgrades for more points or to higher levels of membership.
• Resale markets: Many websites and other brokers offer timeshare owners the chance to sell their membership, but results may be disappointing. Some listings have been seen for as low as $1. Internal Input does not buy or sell timeshares.
